Marc-Andre Fleury teases NHL return next season

Marc-Andre Fleury announced his retirement following the Minnesota Wild’s exit from the Stanley Cup Playoffs. But just four days later, Fleury signed up to represent Team Canada in the World Championship. Now, he’s even teasing that he might not be done in the NHL

After 21 seasons, 1,052 regular-season games, three Stanley Cups, and one Vezina Trophy, Marc-Andre Fleury decided it was time to call it quits. Following the Wild’s first-round elimination by the Vegas Golden Knights in six games, the veteran goaltender announced his retirement from the NHL.

Called to the World championship

However, he didn’t completely retire from hockey. Just days after his farewell to the big stage, Team Canada announced that Fleury would be joining them for the World Championship in Denmark and Sweden. It will be Fleury’s first appearance at the tournament.
He’ll join an already star-studded roster featuring Sidney Crosby, Nathan MacKinnon, Ryan O’Reilly, Macklin Celebrini, and Adam Fantilli.

Marc-Andre Fleury NHL comeback

Now, Fleury is even being discussed as a potential NHL player once again. During exit interviews with the Minnesota Wild, several of Fleury’s former teammates joked about bringing him back next season as an emergency backup goalie—also known as an EBUG.
Reporters then asked Marc-Andre Fleury whether he could see himself in that role or remaining around the team next season.
“Oh yeah, why not? I don’t know. I’ll have to talk to Billy and Hynes about it, but if Gus takes a day off or gets sick or something—yeah, why not?” Fleury responded, sparking speculation about whether we’ve really seen the last of him in the NHL.
