The Tkachuk brothers got to watch Jordan Staal win the Stanley Cup and the Conn Smythe Trophy during the 2025–26 playoffs. They also got to see his brothers join him in the celebrations afterward — something that made quite an impression on them.
“Just so cool,” was their verdict.
The Staal family consists of four brothers, all of whom played in the NHL. Jared Staal appeared in two NHL games with the Carolina Hurricanes during the 2012–13 season. Marc Staal played 1,136 NHL games, spending most of his career with the New York Rangers. Then there’s Eric Staal, who played 1,365 NHL games and captained the Hurricanes for seven seasons.

And then there’s Jordan. He took over the Hurricanes captaincy from his brother in 2017. Last week, he captained Carolina to its first Stanley Cup in 20 years. Jordan also scored in the first five games of the Final, a feat that helped him win the Conn Smythe Trophy, awarded annually to the most valuable player in the playoffs. During the on-ice celebrations, Jordan’s brothers came down from the stands and celebrated wildly with him.
The Tkachuk brothers’ take
Matthew Tkachuk and Brady Tkachuk are two brothers who know all about playing in the NHL at the same time. They currently play in the same division and face each other several times each season. Both followed the Stanley Cup Final with great interest. On their podcast, Wingmen, they discussed Jordan Staal’s Conn Smythe-winning performance.

“Conn Smythe winner at that age. And that Final performance. That is the stuff of legends right there. In the Final, he has six goals. Unbelievable. And that’s coming as a defensive center who’s playing against every team’s top player. When your job is not to score and then you score every game, that is such an added bonus,” Matthew said on the podcast.
They also discussed what it was like watching the Staal brothers celebrate together on the ice and support Jordan.
“I’m tight with Eric and Marc. I’ve actually been texting with them throughout the playoffs, and mainly during the Final. They were doing what you’ve done for me the last couple of years — going to a bunch of games. They traveled to Carolina and to Vegas. I guarantee you, when you ask him when everything is said and done, that’ll be one of his favorite parts. Having brothers who played and knowing what it’s like. Just so cool,” Matthew said on the podcast.
