Sidney Crosby is considered by many to be one of the greatest hockey players of all time. But he would never have reached the heights he has without the support of his mom and dad. In a recent interview, his mother, Trina Crosby, shared her favorite memory of her son.

Since Crosby entered the NHL in 2005, he has been one of the league’s top players. Over his long career, he has collected numerous individual awards, three Stanley Cup titles, one World Championship, and two Olympic gold medals — with the possibility of earning a third on Sunday.

But no matter how much talent a player has, success rarely comes without the tireless efforts of their parents. Early mornings, long car rides to away games and tournaments, and countless hours of dedication all play a role. In the interview, the parents of Team Canada teammates Sidney Crosby, Nathan MacKinnon and Brad Marchand shared memories from their sons’ early careers.

Trina Crosby’s favorite memory

Crosby’s parents, Troy Crosby and Trina Crosby, remember a young boy who spent hours playing hockey in the basement of their home.
“He picked the top corner on me. And I thought, ‘He’s gonna make the NHL for sure,’” Troy Crosby says jokingly.
Later in the interview, Trina shares her favorite memory from her son’s illustrious career.
“I’m going to say Vancouver 2010,” she says, referring to the now iconic overtime winner her son scored in the 2010 Olympic final.
