Sidney Crosby is one of the greatest players ever—period. For 21 seasons, he has stunned fans with his talent. But he is also great at motivating himself, something that becomes more obvious than ever in the upcoming season of Faceoff: Inside the NHL.
Even before his debut in the NHL, Sidney Crosby was talked about as a once-in-a-generation talent. Since then, he has exceeded all expectations: three Stanley Cups in 2009, 2016, and 2017; two Olympic golds; and countless other achievements. “Sid the Kid” has won it all.

On October 3, season two of the hugely popular documentary series Faceoff: Inside the NHL will be released on Prime Video. In the third episode, viewers follow Anze Kopitar and Sidney Crosby as the veterans prepare for yet another run at winning the world’s oldest sports trophy. Each superstar, with over 20 NHL seasons, has his own way of getting ready—and Crosby’s approach stands out.
”Just as a reminder”
In a teaser clip, Crosby can be seen in his gym, working out to get in shape for the upcoming season. On his wall hang framed pictures of Aleksander Barkov, Jonathan Toews and every Stanley Cup–winning captain since 2008. When asked why, Crosby gives an answer that says everything about his drive to win again:
“I always put up the winning captain. That’s who goes up there. Like when we lost in ’08—you know, I just wanted that as a reminder, so I started doing that. Kept putting them up and leave the empty one there,” Crosby says in the clip.
