Marc-André Fleury signed a one-day contract with the Pittsburgh Penguins so he could retire with the club where he spent 13 seasons. During the game against the Columbus Blue Jackets, the crowd chanted “one more year” for Fleury. After the game, reporters asked him about the chants, and his response had them in stitches.
Following the 2024–2025 season, Marc-André Fleury decided to call it quits on his 21-year NHL career. Over the course of that career, he won three Stanley Cups with the Penguins, one Olympic gold medal, and one Vezina Trophy.
Marc-Andre Fleury stats
He appeared in 1,052 regular-season games, recording 76 shutouts and 575 wins.
Fleury played with Pittsburgh from 2003 to 2017 before moving on to the Vegas Golden Knights, Chicago Blackhawks, and finally the Minnesota Wild.
Had reporters in stitches
This weekend, however, Fleury returned to Pittsburgh on a one-day contract to retire with the club he had long called home. He played one period and stopped all eight shots he faced from the Blue Jackets.
During the game, fans again chanted “one more year” for Fleury. Afterward, reporters asked him how he felt about the chants.
“Thank you. I’m tired. My hips are sore,” Fleury joked, making the reporters burst into laughter.
