The Vancouver Canucks lost their eighth game in a row on Tuesday night. Afterward, Canucks forward Jake DeBrusk did not mince his words.
The Ottawa Senators are a struggling team themselves, but they managed to end their four-game losing streak against the even more struggling Canucks, winning 2–1 after scoring two goals in the first period.
Eight straight losses
For Vancouver, who are in the middle of a six-game road trip in the Eastern Conference, it marked their eighth straight loss. The longest losing streak in Canucks history is ten games, which occurred between October and November of 1997.
The game against the Senators was the fifth of six on this road trip. The Canucks now head to Columbus, where they will face the Blue Jackets on Thursday.
“I hate losing. The message is to try to do whatever it takes to get the next win,” said Elias Pettersson, who scored the Canucks’ only goal, to NHL.com.
Jake DeBrusk brutally honest
Canucks winger Jake DeBrusk, however, was brutally honest about the current situation. When reporters asked him how the losing streak is affecting the team mentally, DeBrusk didn’t hold back.
“For me personally, I’ve never gone through this before. We’ve got to figure it out quickly. I’ve never lost this many games in a row in my life. You feel it,” DeBrusk said.
Fans are not having it
Some fans are now interpreting his comments as a sign that DeBrusk wants out of Vancouver. Given his recent production—five points in ten games—some supporters are also willing to see him traded.
“Jake’s part of the problem. He’s basically robbing the team blind,” one fan wrote on X.
“He’s asking out—let’s get a first-round pick for him,” another added.
“Maybe if you scored more goals, it would help the team?” a third fan sarcastically commented.
