Florida Panthers’ heartfelt gesture for Jonathan Quick

On Monday night, Jonathan Quick said goodbye to the NHL in the final game of his career. Afterward, the opposing Florida Panthers paid their respects by staying on the ice to shake the legend’s hand one last time.

With three Stanley Cups, an Olympic silver medal, a Conn Smythe Trophy, and 410 NHL wins — the most by any American-born goaltender — Quick is set for the Hall of Fame once he becomes eligible.

Jonathan Quick Stanley Cup wins

Quick began his NHL career with the Los Angeles Kings, where he became an icon by leading the team to two Stanley Cup titles in three seasons between 2012 and 2014. In 2023, he won his third Stanley Cup with the Vegas Golden Knights before signing with the New York Rangers, where he spent the final three seasons of his career.
Against the Panthers in Sunrise on Monday, Quick played his last NHL game. The Rangers lost 3–2 after a late game-winner from Cole Reinhardt. After the final whistle, the entire Panthers team — including injured players — remained on the ice, waiting for Quick to return so they could pay their respects to one of the game’s greatest players.

“This is why hockey is the superior sport. So much respect — I love it,” another wrote.
“Just because they’re nasty and mean on the ice doesn’t mean they’re the same way elsewhere. Stick taps to the Panthers for that,” a third added.
“Truest form of reverence and sportsmanship. This is what makes this game so great,” a fourth wrote.
“Classy move from the Panthers players. Quick is a future Hall of Famer who deserves all the praise,” a fifth commented.
