Jonathan Quick takes jab at the LA Kings

On Monday, Jonathan Quick played the final game of his career. Reflecting on his journey before the matchup, Quick appeared to take a subtle jab at one of his former teams, the Los Angeles Kings, by not mentioning them.

A total of 829 regular-season games. Three Stanley Cup titles (2012, 2014, and 2023). One Conn Smythe Trophy. 410 wins and 65 shutouts. Jonathan Quick’s career statistics speak for themselves—he is a future Hall of Famer.

Jonathan Quick Stanley Cup wins

After 19 seasons in the NHL, Quick announced that Monday’s game against the Florida Panthers in Sunrise would be his last. Drafted 72nd overall by the Los Angeles Kings in the 2005 NHL Draft, he made his NHL debut in 2007. Alongside Anze Kopitar and Drew Doughty, Quick was a cornerstone of the Kings team that won two Stanley Cups in three years, 2012–2014.
Quick remained with the Kings until 2023, when he was unexpectedly traded to the Columbus Blue Jackets. The Blue Jackets then traded him just one day later to the Vegas Golden Knights, where he won his third Stanley Cup that same season. In his final seasons, Quick served as a backup goaltender to Igor Shesterkin on the New York Rangers—his childhood team.

Took a jab at the Kings

Before his final game, Quick spoke to the media about his career and the trade situation in 2023. During the interview, he notably did not mention the Kings, the team he spent 16 seasons with.
“The organizations I’ve been a part of, they’ve been great to me. Very grateful for Columbus and how they handled that situation, and Vegas and how they handled the situation. Then obviously you get the opportunity here… As far as myself, I’m not really at that point where I’m reflecting on all that stuff,” Quick told reporters.

Fans support Quick

Online, fans reacted to Quick’s omission of the Kings. In the past, he has also left them out when discussing his career.
“He really loathes the Kings front office,” one fan wrote on X.
“He has more to say about Columbus than LA, I’m crying,” another added.
“As long as Luc Robitaille is part of the front office, Jonathan Quick will never forgive LA,” a third wrote.
“As a Kings fan, I get not mentioning the Kings. I wasn’t happy with how they handled it either. We still love Quickie regardless,” a fourth commented.
