Chris Chelios is one of the greatest American-born players ever to play in the NHL. On Wednesday, Chelios himself was asked to name his Mount Rushmore of American players — and his picks raised a few eyebrows, to say the least.
Chelios is the only player besides Gordie Howe to play 26 seasons in the NHL. Add three Stanley Cups and three Norris Trophies to that résumé, and he can easily be described as one of the best American-born players ever to skate in the league.

Picked their Mount Rushmore
On Wednesday, Chelios appeared as a guest on the NHL on TNT panel, where each analyst revealed their personal Mount Rushmore of American-born players.
Anson Carter’s Mount Rushmore consisted of Patrick Kane, Mike Modano, Brian Leetch, and Chris Chelios.
Paul Bissonnette selected Patrick Kane, Mike Modano, and Chris Chelios, with his fourth spot tied between Jeremy Roenick and Keith Tkachuk.
Chris Chelios own Mount Rushmore
When it was time for Chelios to reveal his own Mount Rushmore, he left out both Tkachuk and Roenick, although he listed them as honorable mentions.
“Kaner, number one. Individual awards, team awards — he’s done it all. Then Modano right behind him. Brian Leetch because of the Conn Smythe Award and what he did with the Rangers. The most unsung guy, Joe Mullen. Different era, but three Cups,” Chelios said in the studio.
