Dylan Larkin’s future has yet to be decided. However, NHL insider Elliotte Friedman has proposed one possible blockbuster trade — a deal that would send Dylan Larkin to the Dallas Stars and Jason Robertson to the Detroit Red Wings.
Dylan Larkin has served as captain of the Detroit Red Wings for the past six seasons. As a Michigan native, he has long been a hometown favorite among fans. However, the Red Wings have struggled to find success during his tenure. In Larkin’s 11 seasons with the franchise, Detroit has reached the playoffs only once, back in his rookie season in 2015-2016.

Then, on June 4, news broke that Dylan Larkin wanted out of Detroit. Through his agent, the Red Wings received a list of teams where Larkin would be willing to accept a trade: the Minnesota Wild, Florida Panthers, and Vegas Golden Knights. Thanks to his full no-trade clause, Larkin ultimately controls where he can be dealt.
However, NHL insider Elliotte Friedman has floated another possibility — one that would send Larkin to the Dallas Stars and Jason Robertson to the Detroit Red Wings.
Blockbuster trade
Red Wings general manager Steve Yzerman recently told reporters that he would rather keep Larkin than trade him for a return he does not believe is worthwhile. Nevertheless, in a Sportsnet column, Elliotte Friedman proposed the Dylan Larkin–Jason Robertson swap with the following words:
“Dylan Larkin: Steve Yzerman would rather make no trade than what he thinks is a bad trade.
Jason Robertson: Wants Dallas to budge. Don’t see it now. My guess is they go to arbitration. Unless Yzerman decides he’s the best option for Larkin,” Friedman wrote.
Jason Robertson is currently without a contract, while Dylan Larkin has five years remaining on his deal, which carries an average annual value of $8.7 million. If this trade were to happen, it would undoubtedly be one of the biggest blockbuster deals in recent NHL history.
