Brady Tkachuk is known for being a tough, gritty player. During the Olympics, he deliberately tried to bait his opponents into going after his hand—taping it up during warmups as part of the ruse.
Both Brady and Matthew Tkachuk were part of Team USA, which won the country’s first men’s hockey Olympic gold medal in 46 years back in February.

Became a close group
After the tournament, many players from the American roster have shared stories about the close-knit team. These locker room anecdotes highlight the brotherhood and camaraderie that developed during the tournament—bonds that ultimately helped the team make history. Recently, Matthew Tkachuk revealed one of the ways his brother Brady contributed to that success.
Brady Tkachuk’s Olympic routine
On the Tkachuk brothers’ podcast, Wingmen, Matthew shared the story:
”Brady’s routine was so insane. First of all, he had surgery on his hand many months ago. He was taping it up because that’s what he’s been doing since the surgery—like, ‘I’m at least going to tape it through the Olympics.’ He would tape it before his off-ice warmup. At the Olympics, we were sharing this big area with the other team. We’re walking by, and Brady’s showing like, ‘I got a hurt hand.’ I thought that was crazy. The guys on the team were like, ‘Why are you taping it where others can see it?’ And his exact response was, ‘I want them to know. I want them to come after it,’” Matthew said on the podcast.
