Sidney Crosby’s wholesome lesson with Macklin Celebrini

As a young talent, you’re always trying to learn from older, more experienced players. And during this year’s World Championship, rookie Macklin Celebrini has the opportunity to learn from one of the best ever: Sidney Crosby. Now, a video of Crosby teaching Celebrini how to take face-offs is going viral among hockey fans.

Born in Vancouver in 2006, Macklin Celebrini was selected first overall by the San Jose Sharks in the 2024 NHL Draft. Like many first-overall picks, Celebrini was thrown straight into the NHL at the start of the 2024–2025 season. He finished with 63 points (25 goals, 38 assists) in 70 games on a San Jose Sharks team that finished last in the NHL.

The young talent didn’t hesitate to represent Team Canada at the World Championship in Sweden and Denmark. Team Canada played their group stage games in Stockholm, where they won their group ahead of Sweden after beating them in the final group-stage match. On Thursday, Team Canada will face Denmark in the quarterfinals.
Celebrini has had a strong tournament so far, tallying three goals and three assists in seven games. However, he’s still trailing Sidney Crosby, who has 11 points (4 goals, 7 assists) in seven games. In hopes of one day reaching Crosby’s level, Macklin Celebrini is closely studying him throughout the tournament — and Crosby doesn’t mind sharing his experience.

Sidney Crosby holds lesson

In a video that hockey fans are loving, Sidney Crosby can be seen sharing his face-off techniques with his young teammate.
“Crosby is a professor of this game,” one person writes on X.
“Mack literally could not be happier — that smile,” another writes.
“Sid in the fatherly role. Celebrini has probably developed more in this tournament than in an entire rookie season,” a third adds.
