The Carolina Hurricanes managed to keep the Eastern Conference Final alive with a 3–0 win in Sunrise last night. Two of the goals were scored into an empty net, but in the postgame press conference, Panthers coach Paul Maurice had reporters in stitches when he talked about the goals they conceded…
The Florida Panthers have been playing impressively this postseason. After eliminating the Toronto Maple Leafs in seven games, they outscored the Hurricanes 5–2, 5–0, and 6–2 in the first three games of the series.
First win since 2006
But last night, the Hurricanes came out aggressive, and in the middle of the second period, they took their first lead of the series. The Hurricanes managed to shut out the Panthers, securing their first win in a Conference Final since 2006—when none other than Rod Brind’Amour scored the Game 7 overtime winner against the Buffalo Sabres.
Paul Maurice hilarious response
The last two Hurricanes goals were scored into an empty net by Sebastian Aho and Jordan Staal. Panthers goaltender Sergei Bobrovsky has had a great postseason so far, with a save percentage of 91.4 over 16 games. But that didn’t stop Panthers coach Paul Maurice from chirping his netminder during the postgame press conference. Asked about how Bobrovsky kept the Panthers in the game before he was pulled, Maurice made reporters burst out laughing.
“I didn’t like the last two at all. His gap was horses**t,” Maurice joked. Game Five will be played in Carolina on Wednesday. You can watch the clip below.
