Nikita Kucherov’s new nickname for Andrei Vasilevskiy

Reactions from fans and analysts to the huge goaltender fight between Andrei Vasilevskiy and Jeremy Swayman on Sunday have been remarkable. Now, one of Vasilevskiy’s teammates has revealed a new nickname for the Lightning netminder.

The Tampa Bay Lightning defeated the Boston Bruins 6–5 in a shootout in front of 64,617 spectators at Raymond James Stadium on Sunday. But the final score won’t be what people remember most.

Instead, much of the postgame conversation centered on the two goaltenders, Jeremy Swayman and Andrei Vasilevskiy. The pair dropped their gloves at center ice and squared off in what might have been the most-watched goalie fight ever, given the massive crowd in attendance. Afterwards, both goalies praised each other for helping create a night to remember.

But it wasn’t just the crowd that was energized by the tilt—players on both teams were clearly fired up. Speaking to reporters after the game, Lightning forward Nikita Kucherov revealed that Vasilevskiy has earned a new nickname in the locker room.
“Yeah, I knew he was gonna beat the wheels off Swayman. I didn’t wanna be the other guy. I was so fired up—the bench felt it. We call him ‘White Tyson’ now,” Kucherov said.
