When a player reaches a milestone in the NHL, it’s customary for them to keep the puck. But last night, Jordan Binnington tried to rob Alexander Ovechkin of that honor in the most hilarious way.
Alexander Ovechkin of the Washington Capitals became the first player in NHL history to reach 900 regular-season goals. He hit the milestone in 1,504 games and now sits alone atop the 900-goal throne.

Alexander Ovechkin reaches 900 goals
He did it against the St. Louis Blues, who are really struggling to find their way this season, currently stuck near the bottom of the standings. And last night was no anomaly—the Capitals cruised to a comfortable 6–1 win. Ovechkin’s record-breaking goal came early in the second period, a backhand shot that beat Blues goaltender Jordan Binnington.
Jordan Binnington stole Ovechkin’s puck
Binnington has made a name for himself not only as a great goaltender but also as something of a jokester, and he really showed it last night. After giving up Ovechkin’s 900th goal, Binnington fished the puck out of the net and stuffed it down his pants instead of letting Ovechkin keep it, as tradition dictates. However, a linesman caught on and forced Binnington to hand the puck back to its rightful owner.
Fans can’t stop lauhging
Fans can’t stop laughing at Binnington’s stunt.
“One of the few times I’ll admit this is legit funny as fck,” one fan wrote.
“Hockey remains the best—just a classic move for sh*ts and giggles,” another added.
“Haha, what a guy. You know it was just for show,” a third chimed in.
