Jonathan Quick praised after bench-clearing brawl

The Original Six matchup between the New York Rangers and the Detroit Red Wings ended with an old-fashioned bench-clearing brawl after Mason Appleton fired a shot after the final buzzer. Now, fans are loving Jonathan Quick for his reaction.

Sunday’s game featured both teams wearing their centennial jerseys. The Rangers entered the matchup on a three-game winning streak after a rough start to their 2025–26 campaign. But a late goal by Lucas Raymond—his fifth of the season—snapped that streak.

Afterwards, though, the main talking point wasn’t the game itself but what happened once the clock hit zero. As soon as the buzzer sounded, Red Wings forward Mason Appleton took a shot into the Rangers’ empty net—and Jonathan Quick didn’t appreciate it. He came off the bench and went after Appleton and Dylan Larkin, sparking a full bench-clearing brawl.
“The horn goes and he shoots. I don’t know why they’re surprised. It’s usually the response when something like that happens. The boys jumped in, did the right thing,” Quick told reporters after the game.

Fans are loving it

Both Jonathan Quick and Appleton were handed 10-minute penalties. Fans are now praising Quick for the way he reacted.
“One of the beauties of the game. Quick is a legend,” one fan wrote on X.
“Real hockey fans love this sh*t,” another added.
“Quick is a savage. I love it. Future Hall of Famer,” a third fan chimed in.
Next up, the Rangers will face the Vegas Golden Knights, while the Red Wings take on the Seattle Kraken.
