J.T. Miller faces backlash after criticizing Rangers fans

The New York Rangers continue to struggle. On Monday, they lost in overtime to the Columbus Blue Jackets, and now captain J.T. Miller is facing backlash after criticizing Rangers fans in a postgame interview.

The Rangers’ issues at home have been well-documented. They have only two regulation wins this season at Madison Square Garden, the same number as their biggest rivals, the New York Islanders.

One Rangers win

In the midst of a five-game homestand, the Rangers have managed just one win—an overtime victory against the Pittsburgh Penguins on Saturday. On Monday, they forced overtime after erasing a 4–0 third-period deficit, but ultimately fell to Columbus.
“I admire our fight. We stayed in it. We kept pushing. That’s what we talked about in between periods—just trying to build on each shift. It helps when you score on the first shift; it gives you some juice,” Rangers head coach Mike Sullivan told NHL.com after the game.

J.T. Miller under fire after comments

But despite the comeback effort, the biggest conversation after the game centered on Miller, who recorded one assist. In his postgame comments, he expressed frustration with fans who booed as the Rangers fell behind.
“We had a great start, drew a penalty, scored on a penalty… it’s funny how the game works sometimes. All of a sudden it’s 3–0 and they’re booing again,” Miller told reporters.
Fans, however, did not take the remarks lightly. On social media, many blasted Miller and even called for him to lose the captaincy.
“Worst captain in Rangers history,” one fan wrote on X.
“The captaincy needs to be ripped off this guy,” another posted.
“Drury sucks at picking captains,” a third fan chimed in, referencing Rangers general manager Chris Drury.
Next, the Rangers will face the Toronto Maple Leafs.
