Evander Kane is reportedly on the trade block with the Vancouver Canucks—and fans don’t seem to be defending him. Last night, he got into an altercation with Timothy Liljegren, and Canucks supporters were far from impressed.
Kane was traded from the Edmonton Oilers to the Canucks ahead of the 2025–2026 season. So far, he has recorded 24 points and 64 penalty minutes. As the Canucks look to rebuild their roster, Kane has been identified as one of the players who could be moved.

Evander Kane fought Timothy Liljegren
The former fourth overall pick in 2009 has struggled to find a long-term home during his career. In addition to being drafted by the Atlanta Thrashers, Kane has played for the Oilers, Canucks, Winnipeg Jets, Buffalo Sabres, and San Jose Sharks.
Last night, the Canucks faced the Sharks in a 5–2 loss. Kane did not score but got involved in a fight with Sharks defenseman Timothy Liljegren—something fans quickly criticized.
Backlash from fans
Liljegren had never fought in the NHL before, and many supporters are calling Kane’s decision to target him “cowardly,” arguing he could have squared off with Sharks enforcer Ryan Reaves instead.
“As a Canucks fan I’m embarrassed. What a tiny D move,” one fan wrote on X.
“What an effing joke Evander Kane is, goes after a guy who’s never fought in his life in a 4–1 game. Trade him during the intermission,” another fan added.
“Evander Kane continues to be the most hated former Shark. What a punk move,” a third fan said.
