One time last year, Connor Bedard surprised every hockey fan by naming his favorite player ever. Connor Bedard has a really entertaining style of play, with silky mittens and an offensive mind.
He sometimes reminds of Connor McDavid, and many would guess that Bedard looked up to him during his junior years.
During an interview last year, however, Bedard made a surprise, revealing that Tyler Motte was his favorite player. Motte played in Vancouver at the time, which could be an answer to Bedard’s idolizing. But now, Connor Bedard instead names another player as his favorite, and it’s one who’s definitely more established than Motte.
Connor Bedard makes his long-awaited NHL debut this week, and ahead of it, he was a guest on The Pat McAfee Show to talk about his thoughts on how it feels to be the biggest name in hockey, and his experience playing in the NHL so far.
But especially, if there’s any player he’s modeled his game after.
”Probably not one specific guy, I just watch a lot of hockey. But Sidney Crosby is actually my favorite player, so I watched him a lot,” Bedard said.
”I try to take little things away from different guys and you know, everyone’s so skilled, and everyone has their thing they’re best at, so just try to learn as much as I can.”
Connor Bedard has had the opportunity to meet with Crosby several times, and it means a lot to him.
”I got to meet a lot of them when I was 15-16. I was pretty fortunate for that. I met Crosby when I was 17, you know, you see this guys at events or camps. The hockey community is super tight so I got som messages after the draft, and I’ve been pretty fortunate. They all seems like class acts.”
