Bruce Cassidy calls out officials after missed tripping

The second game between the Vegas Golden Knights and the Edmonton Oilers needed overtime to be decided, with Leon Draisaitl scoring the game-winning goal to secure a 5–4 victory and the Oilers’ second win in the series. However, the main talking point afterward was a missed penalty call against the Oilers that has Bruce Cassidy furious.

The Edmonton Oilers blew a two-goal lead in the third period of last night’s game. But late in the first overtime period, Oilers superstars Connor McDavid and Leon Draisaitl combined to secure the win. The game was filled with heavy hitting and — to be fair — quite a few cheap shots.

Missed tripping call

Now, the officials are facing heavy criticism for a missed call in overtime. In a battle for a loose puck, Viktor Arvidsson accidentally placed his stick between the legs of Knights defenseman Brayden McNabb. McNabb crashed into the boards and had to leave the game with what appeared to be a shoulder injury. Arvidsson was not penalized for tripping.

Bruce Cassidy: ”He blew it”

Fans, experts, and coaches are now all saying the same thing about the incident that saw McNabb leave the game without the Knights being awarded a power play.
“He blew it, he missed the call. It’s a can-opener trip, it’s a dangerous play, it’s all of those things,” Vegas coach Bruce Cassidy told reporters after the game.
“If you’re an Oilers fan, you have to say you’re fortunate. The Oilers fans are lucky,” Kevin Bieksa said in the Sportsnet studio. Game Three will be played on Saturday in Edmonton. You can watch the incident in the clip below.
