Brett Hull refused to leave the ice because he wanted a beer

Brett Hull is one of the greatest players to ever play in the NHL. But during his 20-year-long career, Hull made a name for himself not only as a super-talented player and goal scorer, but also as a guy who never turned down a good night out on the town. Like that time in Los Angeles—when he refused to come off the ice for a special reason…

As a hockey player, there are certain away games to look forward to during a season. Las Vegas is one, New York another, and of course, Los Angeles. During Brett Hull’s tenure with the St. Louis Blues, they had a few games in L.A. against the Kings.

Brett Hull refused to leave the ice

But one night, Brett Hull really felt that he and his teammates needed a night out. And being a player who could score almost at will, Hull decided to take the game into his own hands—although his coach, Brian Sutter, thought otherwise.
The game was tied in the third period, and Sutter decided to keep Hull on the bench to protect the Blues’ defense—something Hull wasn’t too thrilled about. So he made a decision against his coach’s wishes: he jumped onto the ice with a few minutes left—and refused to come off. Both teammates and coaches screamed at Hull to come to the bench, to which he replied, “F*ck off!”

Seven legendary words

After playing for over two minutes straight, Hull got a pass on a breakaway and scored the game-winner with 25 seconds left. Then he returned to the bench and explained why he wouldn’t come off the ice.
“Like we’re going to overtime in L.A.,” he said, according to Blues insider Andy Strickland.
The coach didn’t get exactly what he wanted, but he got two points in the standings. And Brett Hull and his teammates got exactly what they wanted: a night out in Los Angeles.
What a legend.
