Sidney Crosby embellishment call

Game 4 will be played in Philadelphia on Saturday night. However, in Game 3—a very physical contest—Sidney Crosby was sent to the penalty box for embellishment after taking Garnet Hathaway’s stick to the face before a faceoff. Meanwhile, Hathaway was also penalized for high-sticking. As a result, the embellishment penalty marked Crosby’s first of his career.

“I don’t know how Rusty ends up with the extra penalty out of all of that. I don’t know how I end up with the embellishment. It’s hard to understand, but you’ve got to play through that,” Crosby said about the situation afterward.

Wayne Gretzky’s take

On NHL on TNT on Thursday, Wayne Gretzky sat on the panel and shared his take on the incident.
“I think the coach summed it up best. Crosby’s been a class act in the National Hockey League, and the city of Pittsburgh is obviously very proud of him. He doesn’t embellish. I think the referees overreacted on that call last night. But hey, it is what it is,” Gretzky said on the broadcast.
