A police dog was brought out for a ceremonial puck drop in the KHL last night. But things did not go as planned – in fact, everything that could go wrong did go wrong.
The KHL is well underway, with around 30 games played so far this season. Last night, CSKA Moscow faced off against Dinamo Minsk. The game ended 5-2 in favor of Dinamo Minsk after a strong second period in which they scored three goals. But the talking point afterward was not the result.

Brought out a police dog for KHL puck drop
The KHL game’s prelude featured a ceremonial puck drop with a police officer and a police dog. However, the dog did not focus on the puck or the puck drop, but rather on the players: Pavel Karnaukhov from CSKA Moscow and Andrei Stas from Dinamo Minsk. The dog first took a nibble at Karnaukhov and, on his way out, decided to go after Stas. Stas did not drop his gloves, so the dog tried to take them off and succeeded for a moment before the police officer intervened and returned them to their rightful owner.
Fans can’t stop laughing
The video of the dog and the puck drop is now going viral among hockey fans, who can’t stop laughing at the dog’s behavior.
“That’s 2 minutes for unsportsdoglike conduct,” one fan writes on X.
“Probably the most KHL thing to ever happen,” another adds.
“Does he play defense? Asking for the Toronto Maple Leafs,” a third jokingly chimes in.
