Fans outraged after “criminal” cross-check to the head

The Scottish second-tier league, the Scottish National League, saw one of the most brutal assaults ever this past weekend from a player on the Whitley Warriors. Now, fans are calling for a long and severe suspension for the player.

Sometimes, hockey players lose their heads and let their emotions take over, resulting in dangerous plays that cross the line. That’s exactly what happened in the Scottish National League this weekend. The Scottish National League is, together with the National Ice Hockey League, the second tier of British hockey.

Cross-check to the neck

The Whitley Warriors are one of the teams in the league, and this past Saturday, they played against the Solway Sharks. During the game, Warriors forward Jay Lucas completely lost his composure. First, he swung his stick at an opponent, then cross-checked him in the neck, sending him down to the ice.

”Most violent ever”

A video of the brutal assault is now going viral among hockey fans, who are disgusted by what Lucas did and are demanding a strong punishment.
“Banned isn’t even close to enough. Assault charges are more appropriate. I’ve seen street fights with less intent to hurt someone,” one fan writes.
“There is a very good case for criminal charges here. That is the most violent cross-check I’ve ever seen,” another one writes.
”Charge’s should be pressed, just because you’re on the ice does not mean you have a free ticket to assault people,” a third one writes.
So far, there have been no updates from the British hockey DOPS regarding a suspension for Jay Lucas, who has accumulated 38 penalty minutes in eight games this season.
