Sidney Crosby did not play
For Team Canada, the tournament ended in disappointment. They generated multiple high-quality scoring chances throughout the game but could not get the puck past tournament MVP goaltender Connor Hellebuyck. Canada also had to play without its captain, Sidney Crosby.
Crosby was injured in the semifinal after taking a hit from Czechia’s Radko Gudas. He attempted to push himself to play but was unable to recover in time for the final. Instead, he had to watch the loss from the sidelines. Afterward, the two-time Olympic champion said he was disappointed but proud when he spoke with reporters.
Opened up about the future
Speaking about the loss and the tournament as a whole, Crosby said:
“It’s difficult — it’s never easy to watch — but I thought we played an incredible game. The guys competed so hard, did so many things right, and I thought we were going to find a way. It’s too bad we didn’t get the result. Everybody played so well. It’s tough. We played the right way. We were physical, we created scoring chances.”
He also spoke about his future and the next Olympic tournament in France in 2030:
“It’s a little ways away. I still love it, and obviously this was an incredible experience with the guys we have. So, we’ll see — but I haven’t thought that far ahead yet.”
