Drew Doughty’s words about Sidney Crosby’s legacy

Drew Doughty and Sidney Crosby are the only players on Team Canada with previous Olympic experience. Now, Doughty is sharing his thoughts on how Crosby’s career has influenced younger Canadian players.

Doughty has put together an exceptional career, winning two Stanley Cups, a World Championship, a Norris Trophy—and two Olympic gold medals that could become three if Canada goes all the way in this tournament.

Part of the veteran core

Along with Sidney Crosby and Brad Marchand, Doughty forms the veteran core of Team Canada heading into Friday’s Olympic semifinal. It’s their responsibility to set a strong example for the younger players, and Drew Doughty believes Crosby excels in that role.
Speaking to reporters on Thursday, Doughty reflected on Crosby’s impact on Canadian hockey over the past two decades.

“I don’t even know what words to use. I mean, he’s the guy that showed all the young guys—young players growing up—what it means to be Canadian. What it means to be a Canadian hockey player. Getting to play with him, I even feel that being a teammate of his. So that just shows you how special it is,” Doughty said.
The Olympic semifinals will be played today: Canada vs. Finland at 10:40 a.m., and the United States vs. Slovakia at 3:10 p.m.
