When Wayne Gretzky got the most unexpected phone call from Hulk Hogan, that made his Christmas so much more stressful

Wayne Gretzky is the greatest hockey player of all time, and many consider him one of the most dominant athletes of all time, regardless of sport.

He broke numerous records in the 80s and 90s and was the superstar of the NHL for 20 years.

In the same era, Hulk Hogan was the biggest name in pro wrestling, and he led the WWE into the first WrestleMania.

Both Gretzky and Hogan are huge celebrities and sporting icons, but other than that, there aren’t too many similarities between them.

But once, Gretzky and Hogan were involved in a hilarious mixup, which led to a stressful Christmas.

When Wayne Gretzky appeared on comedian Theo Von’s ’This Past Weekend’ podcast, he shared a great story about accidentally stealing Hogan’s car on Christmas Eve of all days.

And it’s honestly hilarious.

“I got a great Hulk Hogan story. People don’t know this, but Hulk used to live in Thousand Oaks, too. It was December 24 and we go to the Thousand Oaks Mall and I’m getting last-minute Christmas gifts for my kids who were at the time 10, 12, and 14,” Gretzky said.

“So I put them all in the car and they had valet parking at the mall. So I come out and put all my bags in the car and I drive home.”

Hulk Hogan speaks onstage at the Comedy Central Roast Of David Hasselhoff held at Sony Pictures Studios on August 1, 2010 in Culver City, California. The””Comedy Central Roast of David Hasselhoff” will air on Sunday, August 15, 2010 at 10:00 p.m. ET/PT.

Gretzky got home, but it didn’t take long until he got a phone call, and he didn’t expect what was coming next.

“I get a call around seven o’clock. [Hulk Hogan] goes, ‘Wayne?’ and I go, ‘Yeah.’ He says, ‘It’s Terry. We got a problem.’ I go, ‘What’s the problem?’ He goes, ‘We got the same exact car. I’ve got your car and your presents. You got my car and my presents.’ So I go outside, and I’m like, ‘Oh my God.’ He goes, ‘Yeah, my kids are older. It’s probably not going to work. I’ll meet you halfway.’

”So we drove back halfway together, we switched cars out, got the presents, and went home. True story.”
