Wayne Gretzky’s intermission prediction came true

Last night, the Stanley Cup Finals finally kicked off. The Edmonton Oilers managed to take home Game One after an overtime winner from Leon Draisaitl. But during the second intermission, Wayne Gretzky made a prediction about the third period—and after seeing what happened, fans are now saying the same thing.

When talking about Wayne Gretzky, many say his astonishing accomplishments on the ice were due to a sixth sense—a sense that allowed him to anticipate what was going to happen before anyone else, giving him a major advantage. Even though Gretzky hasn’t played since 1999, he clearly hasn’t lost his touch.

Analyzed Panthers defense

During the second intermission of Game One, Gretzky was in the TV studio analyzing the Oilers’ play in general and Connor McDavid‘s play in particular.
“Connor’s gonna have to take it around the net or stop up and hit the late guy, because they’re cutting everything off going to the net,” Gretzky said of the Panthers’ defense. Then, in the third period, guess what happened?

Wayne Gretzky’s prediction

Connor McDavid came down the Panthers’ defensive zone on the outside and, just before passing the net, sent the puck across the ice to Mattias Ekholm, who scored the equalizer. The rest of the studio couldn’t believe what had just happened, but Gretzky credited everything to McDavid’s brilliant hockey sense.
“That’s called luck. He’s the best player in the world. He knows what he’s doing. I just got lucky with that statement,” Gretzky said of the play.
Game Two will be played on Friday.
