Trevor Zegras under fire after Battle of Pennsylvania brawl

Last night, Trevor Zegras experienced his first Battle of Pennsylvania – and it was a tough one. Afterward, Zegras was called out by fans for not stepping up during a big brawl at the end of the game.

Trevor Zegras has had a strong start to his Philadelphia Flyers career, tallying nine points in nine games since being traded from the Anaheim Ducks in the summer for Ryan Poehling and two draft picks. But until last night, Zegras had never experienced a Battle of Pennsylvania firsthand.

Emotions ran high

The game was tight and went to overtime and a shootout, where the Flyers came out on top of the Pittsburgh Penguins. Emotions ran high, to say the least. When the overtime buzzer sounded, a massive brawl broke out, resulting in eight players receiving game misconducts: Sidney Crosby, Ryan Shea, Parker Wotherspoon, and Noel Acciari from the Penguins — and Owen Tippett, Tyson Foerster, Jamie Drysdale, and Trevor Zegras from the Flyers.

Trevor Zegras called out by fans

Zegras is now being criticized for acting cowardly during the brawl and not getting involved when it mattered. During the fight, Noel Acciari went down on the ice, and Zegras removed his helmet before being pulled away by the referees. Fans are now saying he should have stood up to Acciari.
“Zegras is the bravest NHL player when there’s a zebra nearby,” one fan wrote on X.
“Hahaha Zegras with the bucket pop and then skates away looking like a deer in headlights,” another wrote.
“Zegras punches a player while he’s down and then hides behind the ref,” a third added.
