Tom Wilson is not one to shy away from a scrap, and last night was no exception. After his tilt with Brandon Tanev, Wilson mocked his opponent in the most brutal way—striking a turtle pose as they skated away.
Alexander Ovechkin might have stolen the headlines, registering his 34th career hat trick—a feat that puts him in sole fourth place for career hat tricks in NHL history.

Tom Wilson personal record
But Tom Wilson also made news, albeit for a personal record. He racked up 21 penalty minutes, a career high, dropping the gloves twice in the game. It was the first fight, against Brandon Tanev, that got fans talking afterward. The altercation followed a hit from behind by Tanev on Capitals defenseman Matt Roy, sending Roy head-first into the boards—a move Wilson clearly took exception to.
Brutal chirp at Brandon Tanev
Fans online have called for further punishment for Tanev. Instead, he received two minutes for boarding and a 10-minute misconduct—and, of course, had to face Tom Wilson. Despite answering the bell, Tanev was mocked in the worst way. As they skated away, Wilson crouched into a turtle pose directed at Tanev, suggesting that Tanev “turtled” instead of fighting back.
The Capitals won the game 7-4 and now sit six points outside a playoff spot with nine games remaining. Next up, they face the Vegas Golden Knights on Saturday.
