Tie Domi is one of the most legendary enforcers the NHL has ever seen. Being a fighter also meant plenty of chirping, and Domi did his share. But he was also chirped at often—and one time was especially funny.
During his 16 years in the NHL, Tie Domi dropped the gloves 333 times, the most in league history. His 3,515 penalty minutes put him third all time. Completely fearless, Domi fought everyone: Bob Probert, Rob Ray, and Donald Brashear, to name a few.

Tie Domi’s best chirp
With fighting came a fair share of chirping. There are countless stories about how enforcers tried their best to get under their opponents’ skin. But the best chirp Tie Domi ever received came in New Jersey. Speaking to Sportsnet in 2015, he revealed the funniest one that was ever thrown his way.
”How does it feel…?”
“In New York, the hot place was the China Club. In Winnipeg, it’s a country place called the Palomino Club. We’re playing Jersey a week after I got traded to Winnipeg—the best thing that happened in my career—and I hear at the face-off: ‘Hey, Domi! How’s it feel going from the China Club to the Palomino Club?’ I turn around and see an empty space on the Devils’ bench. I peer down and it’s John MacLean pretending to tie his skates. I saw him a few years later at a golf tournament, and my buddy Kirk Muller was like, ‘Oh, Johnny Mac got you!’ So I walk up to John pretending I’m seriously mad. But that was a good one”, Tie Domi told Sportsnet.
