The 2026 World Championship did not go as planned for Team Canada. After the disappointing loss to Team Norway in the bronze-medal game, Canadian fans are now brutally mocking their own team online.
“Hockey Canada is a joke now,” one fan wrote on X.
Going into the 2026 World Championship, Team Canada had a lot of confidence and was—as usual—considered one of the favorites to win the entire tournament. The team also has superstars like Macklin Celebrini and Sidney Crosby.

Canada – Norway bronze-medal game
But after making it through the group stage without dropping a point and defeating Team USA 4–0 in the quarterfinals, Team Canada’s World Championship run came to a sudden halt in the semifinals. Team Finland, which eventually won the gold medal, knocked Canada out of the tournament. Then, in the bronze-medal game, Canada lost to Team Norway in overtime.
Team Canada’s effort
The bronze medal was Norway’s first-ever medal in the tournament. But for Canada, Sunday was a huge disappointment.
“It took too long to get to our game today. We got to it in stretches toward the end of the second period and in the third, but it was not a complete 60-minute effort from our group. I give Norway a lot of credit because they played with a lot of pride and commitment. Our team had a lot of great people, outstanding leadership, and world-class hockey players, but unfortunately, it was not the way we wanted it to end,” Canadian head coach Misha Donskov said after the game.
Fans are furious
But the fans are not having it. They are brutally roasting Team Canada online and demanding changes.
“Let’s maybe move away from all the skills and drills and half-ice hockey at younger ages. And I don’t know, maybe go back to what worked for us forever? Maybe playing a team game is more effective than individual skill?” one fan wrote on X.
“Are you telling me a 12th-ranked hockey country beat the likes of Crosby, Scheifele, Celebrini, Tavares, O’Reilly, Holloway, Cozens, and Brown? I could go on. Stunned,” another fan wrote.
“How can anyone talk about the absence of Canadian dominance when we’ve all seen this coming for the last two decades? The European hockey nations have had very good programs for a while, and it’s WAY better for the sport when these tournaments aren’t just USA/Canada year after year,” a third fan wrote.
“Pathetic by Team Canada. Don’t care that it’s the World Championship—heads need to roll at Hockey Canada,” a fourth fan wrote.
”The gap is gone. You can’t win on name recognition alone anymore. Incredible day for international hockey,” a fifth fan wrote.
