Stuart Skinner has had a nightmare playoffs so far. He holds a 0–3 record and is under fire from Edmonton Oilers fans. Now, his comments after the Oilers’ 4–3 loss in Game 3 have fans absolutely furious, with many seemingly losing patience with him.
The Edmonton Oilers have one of the most talented rosters in the NHL, featuring superstars like Connor McDavid and Leon Draisaitl. Last year, they made it all the way to Game 7 of the Stanley Cup Final. But if there’s one thing the Oilers are still missing, it’s top-tier goaltending.
Good goaltending wins championships, and for years, many fans have argued that Stuart Skinner just isn’t good enough to carry the Oilers to a Cup. And so far in this year’s playoffs, he’s done little to prove them wrong. Skinner has played three games and lost all three. Over those games, he’s allowed an average of 5.36 goals, with a .817 save percentage. In contrast, Calvin Pickard is 6–0 with a 2.84 GAA.
Stuart Skinner slammed by fans
With Pickard sidelined for Game 3, Stuart Skinner had another rough outing, eventually allowing the game-winning goal with just 0.4 seconds left—after the puck deflected off Leon Draisaitl’s stick. Still, many fans blamed Skinner, and they were even more upset after hearing his post-game comments. In a video posted by the Oilers’ official X account, Stuart Skinner said:
“That’s a goalie’s job—to give your team a chance to win the game. I thought I did, but it’s a couple of tough bounces here and there.”
He was met with heavy backlash, with fans venting their frustration in the comments:
“Have some shame and never return,” one wrote.
“Dude… no offence, but you can’t stop a beach ball,” said another.
“Such a lame passive comment. So fitting,” a third added.
“Words can’t describe how much this pissed me off, man. I hope Pickard is back sooner rather than later,” a fourth said.
It’s since been revealed that Pickard will not be available for Game 4, which is scheduled for Monday night.
