Sidney Crosby made his return after the injury he suffered during the Olympics, and he quickly found himself in the spotlight. During the game, Crosby was caught on camera shouting at a Hurricanes fan from the penalty box — and fans absolutely loved it.
Despite missing 11 games due to the injury that also kept him out of the Olympic semifinal and the gold medal game, Crosby made an immediate impact, recording one goal and one assist.

Penguins loss to Hurricanes
However, it wasn’t enough. The Pittsburgh Penguins fell 6–5 to the Carolina Hurricanes after Sean Walker scored the overtime winner.
“It’s a credit to the guys — the willingness to battle, not quit, and stick with it. But we’ll also leave this game knowing there’s plenty to clean up, especially in the first two periods,” Pittsburgh head coach Dan Muse told NHL.com after the game.
Sidney Crosby chirped fans
Crosby didn’t just get on the scoresheet — he also paid a visit to the penalty box twice. During one of those visits, following an altercation with Andrei Svechnikov late in the second period, Crosby was caught on camera chirping at Hurricanes fans in the stands. Svechnikov received a double minor (2+2) for the incident, sending the Penguins to the power play — something Crosby made sure to remind the crowd about.
Fans love it
Now, fans online can’t stop laughing at Crosby’s antics.
“Crosby chirping back? Love to see the vets still got some fire,” one fan wrote on X.
“Crosby always does his own thing,” another added.
“Crosby’s cheeky grin and mock gesture at the Hurricanes fan right after that penalty? Veteran savvy at its finest in this Metro rivalry!” a third fan chimed in.
Next up, the Penguins will host the Winnipeg Jets.
