The preseason games between the Florida Panthers and the Tampa Bay Lightning were heated, to say the least. After Saturday’s game, Panthers goaltender Sergei Bobrovsky commented on how the games played out. Now, Lightning fans are calling his comment “ironic.”
The Battle of Florida is alive and kicking. During their three preseason games, the Florida Panthers and the Tampa Bay Lightning combined for 498 penalty minutes and 14 game misconducts.
Sergei Bobrovsky comment on preseason
Neither team backed down, and both wanted to get under each other’s skin ahead of their four regular-season meetings — the first one taking place in Sunrise on November 15.
Speaking about the tough preseason games, Panthers goaltender Sergei Bobrovsky said:
“I think in preseason it’s better to play hockey.”
His words have now led fans of other teams in general — and Tampa Bay Lightning fans in particular — to call him “ironic.”

”Should’ve said that to Greer”
Fans find Bobrovsky’s comment ironic because of his own teammates, whom many consider to play a bit too recklessly and aggressively.
“Perhaps he should let his teammates in on that knowledge,” one fan wrote on X.
“Ironic,” another added.
“Should’ve said that to Greer on Thursday,” a third fan wrote.
“Ironic coming from this team,” one Reddit user commented.
The Panthers will play their first regular-season game on Tuesday against the Chicago Blackhawks, while the Lightning will open their season on Thursday against the Ottawa Senators.
