Rasmus Dahlin skates with former team back home in Sweden

On November 7, the Buffalo Sabres announced that captain Rasmus Dahlin would take a leave of absence to attend to a personal matter in Sweden. He has now been spotted practicing with his former team, Frolunda HC.

The Sabres have had a rough start to their season and are currently last in the East. They must continue without their captain, who has one goal and eight assists in 14 games this season. Dahlin is in Sweden to take care of his fiancée, Carolina Matovac, according to Swedish outlet Aftonbladet.

Rasmus Dahlin leave of absence

In September, Dahlin shared that Carolina had experienced severe heart problems and undergone a heart transplant. When Dahlin left for Sweden on November 7, Sabres head coach Lindy Ruff commented on the situation.
“What this young man has gone through, I don’t think you can describe it and I don’t think you can feel what he’s feeling. I’m pretty passionate about the fact that no one would want to walk in his shoes and have to deal with what he’s dealt with. He’s undoubtedly got the support of everybody on this. This is larger than hockey,” Ruff told NHL.com.

Dahlin skating with Swedish team

On Monday, Swedish journalist Henrik Leman reported that while in Sweden, Dahlin is skating with his former team, Frölunda HC, a club he played for as a junior and also represented in 67 SHL games. While he wasn’t available for interviews, he spoke briefly about his situation.
“Absolutely, my career goes on,” he told Leman.
It is not yet clear when Dahlin will be able to return to the Sabres.
