Pekka Rinne’s save against Anaheim was just ridiculous

Rinne has been a consistent netminder for years now. A gem of a goalie for Nashville, he has been their backbone in the blue-paint dating back to 2008-2009. Rinne has racked up just under fifteen-thousand saves over the course of his career, and his magical save last night was one to remember.

A shot from the point by defender Brandon Montour was deflected up in the air. The puck bounced in the air and found its way over the top of Rinne. It could have been a wonky goal, but instead, Rinne was able to bat the puck from behind his back and keep the puck out of the net.

They certainly don’t teach that in goalie school, but can you really teach a netminder desperation, in the moment saves? That was pure athleticism from Rinne and will be one of the saves of the year.

Rinne’s ability to track the puck during the play should be mentioned as well. The puck not only changed direction but the puck also gained more height after being touched just outside the crease.

The desperation save proves Rinne is still one of the best in the league.

Unfortunately for Rinne and his Predators, Nashville would fall 2-1 to Anaheim in a shootout.
