The Toronto Maple Leafs lost their captain, Auston Matthews, for the remainder of the 2025–2026 season on Thursday following a brutal collision with Anaheim Ducks captain Radko Gudas. Now, Leafs forward Max Domi has shared some candid words about Gudas.
The Maple Leafs are having a challenging season. They currently sit 10 points out of a playoff spot, and it seems unlikely they will reach the postseason. If they do miss it, it would mark their first time since the 2015–2016 season.

Auston Matthews injury
To make matters worse, Matthews suffered a Grade 3 MCL tear and a quad contusion in his left leg after a violent hit from Gudas. Gudas received a five-game suspension, but for Matthews, the season is over. Many fans felt the Leafs should have defended Matthews more aggressively on the ice. Now, Max Domi has made a promise regarding their next meeting, scheduled for March 30 in California.
Max Domi’s promise to Radko Gudas
Speaking to reporters, Domi said:
“Pretty angry. Not happy—you never want to see anyone go down like that, especially the captain, one of the best players in the world. You don’t like to see that. But I think we kind of put it to bed now; I think we answered the bell in the third period. But I’m certainly not happy about it, and we play them in a couple of weeks.”
