Marriage proposal at NHL game went horribly wrong, and it’s the toughest watch all season

The New York Islanders lost their season opener against the Florida Panthers, 3-1, but after the game, something completely different was on everyone’s mind. A video from the game got viral, and it’s the toughest watch in a long time.

During a classic Kiss Cam at the USB Arena, one guy had taken his shirt off, revealing the words “PLZ SAY YES YES YES,” written on his shirt. Of course, he was planning a proposal to what seemed to be his girlfriend with him at the game. He took out a ring, went down on one knee, and all of Long Island was holding its breath.

But immediately, you could tell that something was seriously wrong. His partner was quite shocked and calmly leaned against him and whispered something. Videos from other fans have gone viral, and it’s clear that the girlfriend got up from her seat to leave the arena. Fans started booing, and the poor guy had to put his shirt on, sit down with the seat next to him empty, and start chugging a beer.

If you thought it couldn’t get worse. Just moments after, the Panthers scored a goal, and we can’t even imagine what was going through the Islanders fan’s thoughts.

It’s not the first time a Kiss Cam or a public marriage proposal has gone wrong in the NHL, but this one just hurts to watch.

The Islanders’ only goal was scored by Noah Dobson, with Patric Hornqvist, Matthew Tkachuk, and Eetu Luostarainen scoring for the visitors. It was Matthew Tkachuk’s first game for the Panthers since his blockbuster trade from the Calgary Flames earlier this summer.
