What record does Porter Martone hold?

He is the first teenager in NHL history to score the game-winning goal in each of his first two Stanley Cup playoff games. Both came against Pittsburgh in the first round in 2026, in a 3-2 win in Game 1 on 18 April and a 3-0 win in Game 2 on 20 April, and he was also the first Flyers player of any age to score in each of his first two playoff games.

“That goal, I call it scooter skating to get yourself in position. That’s a goal-scorer’s goal,” head coach Rick Tocchet said after the second one. Philadelphia beat Pittsburgh in six games and then lost the second round to Carolina, and Martone finished with five points in ten playoff games.

At Michigan State, he scored 25 goals, the second-most by a freshman in the program’s history, behind Rod Brind’Amour, and he was the first freshman there to be named a first-team All-American. For Canada, he captained the 2024 under-18 world championship team to gold and finished his under-18 tournament career as Canada’s all-time leading scorer at the event, passing Connor Bedard; he also captained Canada at the 2026 World Juniors, where he led the tournament outright with six goals.

Has Porter Martone been scratched?

No, not once. This is the question the search suggestions keep asking, and the answer runs the other way: Porter Martone had played every one of Philadelphia’s first eleven games of 2026-27 as of 19 October 2026, has never been sent to the AHL, and has not missed a game.

The start was hard. The Flyers opened the season winless in nine; he sat the last four minutes of the first period of the opening game on 30 September 2026 after Pittsburgh scored on a bad line change, his cross-checking penalty led to another goal in the second, and he was moved to the fourth line. Tocchet’s verdict was blunt: “he let up, and you can’t do that.” His ice time has averaged a little over thirteen minutes, under thirteen in five of his first nine games, and that has become its own argument in Philadelphia.

He answered it on 17 October 2026, with a goal and an assist in a 3-1 win over Ottawa, the Flyers’ first win of the season. “He needs support,” Matvei Michkov said about him afterward. “I’ll support him every time, for [on the] ice and for life, too.”

Was Porter Martone injured?

He left a game and returned to finish it. On 5 October 2026 against Tampa Bay he took a high elbow from Brandon Hagel, was called off the ice by the concussion spotter and returned to finish the game; Hagel was given a two-minute penalty. No club statement and no suspension followed, and nothing beyond that is on the record.

Is Porter Martone still at Michigan State?

No. He played one season there, in 2025-26, and turned professional the moment it ended. Michigan State’s season finished on 28 March 2026 with an overtime loss to Wisconsin in the NCAA regional final, he signed his entry-level contract with the Flyers the next day, and he was in an NHL lineup two days after that.

The route there went through the OHL and a family that already knew it. His father Mike Martone was a 1996 Buffalo draft pick who played four minor-league seasons and became a teacher; his mother is Angela; his grandfather Joe left Italy at nine for Sault Ste. Marie. He grew up a Flyers fan in Peterborough, firing pucks through the basement drywall until his father covered it in plywood, and practicing against a homemade goalie he called Jeff, built from an old lawn chair, plywood, old pads, and a mask.

What is Porter Martone’s contract?

A three-year entry-level deal signed on 29 March 2026, running from 2025-26 through 2027-28. PuckPedia lists the cap hit at $974,167 as a three-year average, with a $97,500 signing bonus each season, and has him reaching restricted free agency in 2028. Because the deal counted 2025-26 as its first year, 2026-27 is the middle season of three.

Why did Porter Martone fall in the draft?

He did not fall. NHL Central Scouting ranked him sixth among North American skaters on its final list, and Philadelphia took him sixth, which is as close to the projection as a pick gets. Three picks earlier, Chicago had taken Anton Frondell and one pick later Boston took James Hagens.

Flyers general manager Daniel Briere pointed out what made him unusual in that range: “He’s the only winger in the first 12 picks I think today.” Martone names Corey Perry and Matthew Tkachuk as the players he models himself on.
