The Edmonton Oilers won Game 2 in overtime to take a 2–0 series lead over the Vegas Golden Knights. But it wasn’t without controversy. Vegas was furious with the officials after a contentious no-call just before the Oilers’ deciding goal—and now, it’s been revealed what brutal thing Mark Stone did on the ice to show his frustration.
After losing Game 7 of the Stanley Cup Final last year, the Oilers are on a mission for redemption. And so far, it’s looking good. They eliminated the LA Kings in an intense first-round series, and on Thursday, they took a 2–0 lead over the Golden Knights. But again, it came with controversy.
Leon Draisaitl decided the game in overtime after a beautiful setup from Connor McDavid. But just moments before the breakaway, the Oilers benefited from a controversial no-call. Forward Viktor Arvidsson battled for the puck with Golden Knights defenseman Brayden McNabb, and it looked like Arvidsson shoved McNabb hard into the boards.
Mark Stone’s brutal reaction
McNabb appeared to injure his left arm on the play, and on social media, fans widely agreed that a penalty should’ve been called. After the game, head coach Bruce Cassidy also criticized the officials.
“Listen, Gord (Dwyer) is looking at it. He blew it, he missed the call. I don’t know what else to say,” Cassidy said. “It’s a can-opener trip, it’s a dangerous play—it’s all those things. But it didn’t get called, so you’ve got to keep playing.”
But Cassidy wasn’t the only one reacting with anger. According to the X account SinBinVegas, Mark Stone was visibly furious and used his stick to show it.
“Mark Stone skated right over to the referees after the OT goal and tapped his stick on the glass, indicating ‘this is on you.’ He is absolutely livid,” the account reported.
On social media, fans sympathized with Stone’s raw reaction.
“As much as I hate Vegas and I’m happy for the win, he’s absolutely right. Refs gave us that one for sure,” one fan said.
“Can’t blame him. Oilers were gifted one there,” another added.
