The New Jersey Devils were on a 13-game winning streak, and heading into the matchup against the Toronto Maple Leafs; they had their eyes set on setting a new franchise record for most consecutive wins.
The Devils have an exciting group of young players, and they’re expected to be a contester for the cup in a couple of years. Few experts had guessed they would be flying so high this season, but the Devils have exceeded all expectations, and a 13-game winning streak is nothing but respect.
Looking back, they really could have extended the streak to 14, but it was a tough game against the Toronto Maple Leafs, with an ugly end. The Devils had three goals disallowed, some questionable, and the fans didn’t take it well. The fans started pelting the ice with random objects as the Maple Leafs had a 2-0 lead.

Erik Haula immediately jumped out from the bench to get the fans to stop throwing stuff onto the ice, and at the same time, Toronto players left for the locker room.
“I don’t care if I get a beer spilt on me but I got gear on. There’s other people there and you’d hate to see somebody get knocked with something in the head,” said Haula.
The Devils, who also hit two goalposts in the game, were disappointed. But Erik Haula also had one hell of a quote after the game, talking about trying to stop the fans from throwing things onto the ice.
”I kind of tried to wave to (the fans) to stop (throwing things) but I think I got hit with a chicken finger during that time too … so whatever,” he said.
You never like when fans act like the Devils fans did last night, but Haula’s quote is still an instant classic.
