The Florida Panthers visited the White House yesterday, as is tradition for all Stanley Cup winners. But during his speech to the team, President Donald Trump made a major blunder that has fans laughing.
In June, the Panthers secured their second Stanley Cup in a row. The 2025–26 season has been somewhat of a struggle for the team, with injuries plaguing the roster. They currently sit outside a playoff spot, but are still considered contenders to win the Cup for a third straight time.

Panthers visit to the White House
As tradition dictates, the Stanley Cup–winning team visits the White House to meet the president, which the Panthers did yesterday. Matthew Tkachuk was among the players who expressed excitement about the visit and the praise they received. However, during President Trump’s speech to the team, he made a notable gaffe.
Since the Panthers are based in Florida, Trump took the opportunity to praise America.
“And you denied Canada the Stanley Cup for the 32nd straight year. We have a little competition with Canada. No, they’re great people, though. We’re doing much better than Canada, but that’s okay, right?” he said.
The problem? Around 40 percent of the Panthers’ players are Canadian, and six out of ten members of the team’s management are also Canadian.
”The playoff MVP is Canadian”
Fans were quick to point this out.
“Not to mention half the people who go to their games,” one fan wrote on X.
“Most of the team is Canadian. The playoff MVP is a Canadian. Their leading scorer is a Canadian. Their coach is a Canadian. Canadian Brad Marchand is saving their season this year,” another added.
“They don’t make ’em any dumber than that!” a third commented.
