The Toronto Maple Leafs suffered a devastating loss in Game 5 of their second-round series against the Florida Panthers, and Mitch Marner and Auston Matthews have been under fire. Now, a Chinese KHL team has responded to a viral post—absolutely roasting the two superstars with a hilarious chirp.
After Toronto won the first two games of the series against Florida, Leafs fans were in heaven, and the team looked like a real contender for the Stanley Cup. But since then, something’s changed.
Florida won back-to-back games at home to tie the series 2-2, and in Game 5, the Maple Leafs played one of their worst games of the season, ultimately losing 6-1 in front of booing home fans. And it wasn’t just boos—some fans even threw their jerseys onto the ice to send a clear message: the players’ performance just wasn’t good enough.
Auston Matthews, Marner mocked
Auston Matthews and Mitch Marner have taken most of the criticism from fans, and honestly, it’s hard to argue it’s not deserved. Marner has just one shot on goal in his last three games, and he had a brutal turnover that led to a goal in Game 5. Matthews still hasn’t scored in the series, and over his last 20 playoff games, he’s managed just three goals. Things are now so bad that the pair are getting mocked—from all the way across the world.
An NHL fan did some Photoshop magic, editing Auston Matthews and Marner into Kunlun Red Star jerseys. The team is based in China but plays in the Russian KHL, and the post went so viral that it actually reached Kunlun Red Star. Their social media admin decided to respond—with a perfectly timed roast of the struggling superstars:
“We’re OK with our current roster. Not interested in these gentlemen,” the team wrote.
