Jaromir Jagr still plays professional hockey at the age of 48. However, after his hometown team Kladno was relegated from the top division this weekend, the czech NHL legend might have played in his last game.
Jagr is a legend in hockey history. The 48 year old forward played in 1733 NHL games putting up 1921 points. He ended his stint in the NHL during the 2017-18 season, in which he represented the Calgary Flames playing 22 games.
The last two seasons, Jagr’s been back in Czech Republic representing his hometown team Kladno, which he also owns.
Last year he helped them climb to the top division, but this year was tough. The team ended in last place and last weekend, the team lost in relegation, dropping back down to the second division.
It might have been Jagr’s last ever game.
“I didn’t expect to play such a key match at 48 years old. My responsibility to the club, our fans and sponsors is huge but I still have to do my play. Of course it’s not easy,” Jagr told the Czech website Hokej.cz.
During his long and successful career, Jagr’s won the Stanley Cup twice, and also winning the Ted Lindsay Award three times and the Hart Trophy once.
The legendary NHL winger, drafted by the Penguins in 1990, isn’t sure about playing next season.
“I really don’t know. I still love hockey, I know it’s getting harder each year. I used to be better in these important games and help the team win. But now it’s completely different. The longing for hockey isn’t as big as it was 10 year ago. But it all depends on whether it makes sense to continue playing,” Jagr said to Hokej.cz.
