Brad Marchand shut down the Panthers teardown talk

The Florida Panthers have won two of the last four Stanley Cups and currently sit at 6-4-2 without Aleksander Barkov or Brad Marchand, which has been enough for a certain amount of talk about blowing the whole thing up.

It started with an account called Sports Pessimist, which suggested Florida could get a lot for Sam Reinhart, Carter Verhaeghe, Aaron Ekblad, Gustav Forsling and Anton Lundell, and that the club should absolutely start listening.

Hockey Patrol carried it to Instagram, noting how quickly the mood had turned on a franchise that built one of the most feared rosters in hockey. Marchand, who plays on that roster, turned up underneath it with eight words.
“How many no moves on that list dummy,” he wrote.

Which Panthers players have no-movement clauses?

A no-movement clause hands the final say on any trade to the player rather than the general manager, which is the detail Marchand was pointing at. Four of the five names on that list hold one. Reinhart, Verhaeghe, Ekblad and Forsling all carry them, according to Pro Hockey Rumors, so none of them goes anywhere unless he personally agrees to it, and a teardown isn’t something Bill Zito could simply decide on.

Marchand knows the mechanics better than most, having used his own no-movement clause with Boston to steer himself to Florida at the 2025 deadline.

This is also the third time this month he has waded into the same subject. He responded to Gary Bettman‘s comments about players abusing their trade protection by calling the setup a “broken system” and pointing out the double standard, then told an analyst discussing Connor Hellebuyck‘s situation to stick to PlayStation.

For a 38-year-old recovering from a knee injury, he has been unusually busy.

Marchand picked up the injury in Los Angeles on October 6, his second game of the season, after missing the opening two while recovering from offseason surgery. Barkov has been out since the first week of the campaign with a lower-body injury, with the club having said at the time that he would need six to eight weeks.
