Hurricanes one win away
But instead of mounting a strong comeback, the Hurricanes scored three goals in the first period and eventually won 4-0. They are now up 3-1 in the series and can clinch a spot in the Stanley Cup Final on Friday at home. In the third period, the Canadiens were outshot 19-3 and looked helpless against the dominant Hurricanes.
“It feels great, obviously. We played really well tonight, but we’ve got to get one more, and it’s not going to come easy. They’re a great team. We’ve still got a lot of work to do,” Hurricanes forward Nikolaj Ehlers told reporters after the game.
Wayne Gretzky’s brutally hones words
During the NHL on TNT broadcast after the game, Gretzky did not hold back when he was asked about the Canadiens’ Game 4 performance.
“Not tonight. It was men against boys tonight. You could see a team that really believes they are a Stanley Cup contender. They really believe in the system they play. It starts with that fourth line — they get pucks in deep, cycle, take the body, and pound away. Then the skill players go out there and do their thing,” Gretzky said on the broadcast.
