Brad Marchand‘s Instagram jab at Tim Stützle earlier this week didn’t just get fans talking — it’s now drawing criticism from a well-known Canadian broadcaster as well.
The comment came after the account Puck Empire posted that the Ottawa Senators were closing in on a decision for their next captain, with Stützle, Thomas Chabot, and Jake Sanderson named as finalists. Marchand responded with “Hahahah …..Stutzle….hahaha,” a jab widely read as mocking the idea of Stützle wearing the “C,” given his reputation around the league for embellishing contact.
Brad Marchand slammed
On his podcast, The Sid Seixeiro Show, longtime Canadian broadcaster Sid Seixeiro — best known for co-hosting Sportsnet’s Tim & Sid for a decade before later fronting Breakfast Television on Citytv — didn’t hold back.
“Tim Stützle is a pretty good hockey player. He’s not like a superstar. I don’t know if I’d make him captain, but this is highly disrespectful stuff. And I know a lot of people have different takes on Marchand. The thing with Brad Marchand, his entire career, is no one’s kind of squared him up in a serious way,” Seixeiro said. “I know the fan base doesn’t like this disrespect of Tim Stützle. Tim Stützle better not like it.”

Seixeiro argued Ottawa can’t simply let the comment slide if the organization wants to build a tougher identity going forward.
“The Sens can’t let this go now unchecked. Because if you do, you’re a weak franchise. You’re not a real franchise. The Maple Leafs have been letting this stuff go for 10 years with Marchand and other people who want to get in their kitchen. No retribution. Zero,” he said.
Rather than a response online, Seixeiro suggested Ottawa settle it on the ice instead. “The next time you see Florida, take the fine and let them know you’re there and defend your kid, Stützle,” he said.
The two teams are set to meet on October 21, when the Florida Panthers visit Ottawa for the first time since the comment.
