Trevor Zegras had hockey Twitter buzzing after he was spotted at the tennis tournament U.S. Open sitting next to Kendall Skalicky, the Philadelphia Flyers‘ rinkside and digital reporter, during Day 4 of the tournament in New York. It didn’t take long for the pairing to go viral, with plenty of fans jumping straight to assuming the two are romantically involved.
But there’s an important detail worth adding before anyone reads too much into it: Skalicky isn’t an independent journalist. She’s employed directly by the Flyers organization, covering the team through the club’s own channels rather than for an outside outlet.

Zegras and Skalicky also have a history of working together on camera — their “feathered and lethal” media-day interview went viral back in October 2025 and remains one of her best-known clips with the team.

Fans in the comments picked up on that nuance too. “Important note: Skalicky is the team reporter for the Flyers organization. I’m sure in the world of journalism, this is still frowned upon, but she’s not an independent reporter. She already covers the team with a heavy amount of bias,” one fan wrote.
Another added, “Social teams nowadays follow players around to film what they get up to in the offseason. Wouldn’t be the first ‘Spend a day with X in the offseason’ and stuff like that.”
Others weren’t ready to rule anything out. “I mean they could just be friends,” one comment read, prompting the reply above about content filming being just as plausible an explanation.
Whether it’s a budding relationship, a friendship, or simply footage for a future Flyers video, nothing has been confirmed by either Zegras or Skalicky at this point.
