“Obviously, it’s the biggest hockey market in the world, so that’d be pretty cool,” McKenna said at the Memorial Cup. “I’d be very honored. I hear good things about Toronto. It sounds like an amazing place.”

Gavin McKenna’s not afraid of the bright lights
McKenna grew up in Whitehorse, Yukon — about as far from the bright lights of a major hockey market as you can get. But the stage has never seemed to bother him. In 2024-25 he put up 129 points in 56 games with the Medicine Hat Tigers, one of the most dominant WHL seasons in recent memory. He then made the jump to the NCAA at Penn State, overcame a slow start, and finished with 51 points in 35 games — second in the entire nation

At the World Juniors, he added 14 points in seven games for Canada, helping the team to a bronze medal. Big moments, big numbers. Every time.
The Leafs hold the first overall pick in the 2026 NHL Draft, and McKenna is the name at the top of almost every draft board.And honestly?
